An interesting little app designed to give Blackjack gamers an advantage is causing quite a stir in the gambling community. An application for the iPhone and iPod touch that enables users to count cards has recently come to the attention of Nevada gaming officials.
Blackjack card counting is a mathematical system of keeping track of every card dealt from a blackjack deck to better understand which cards are still left in the deck to be played.
Card Counting recently became infamous after the release of the movie, 21, which was about the MIT Blackjack team which took the Las Vegas casinos for millions of dollars during the 80s and 90s.
Nevada gaming officials eager to point out to potential card counters that using any gadget to "aid in the counting of cards is considered a felony under Nevada laws governing cheating." The development may lead casinos to change their policies on cellphones, especially at the Blackjack table.
